How it works?

The main concept behind this system is not so complicated. Each VATS key has its unique cuts to operate the lock, like all the typical car keys, but this won’t be enough to start the car. The ignition key has a so called ‘chip’, which is in fact a resistor that can be easily seen. When you try to turn the ignition on, the resistance of the ‘chip’ is measured and compared to the value stored in the VATS module (brain). Each of these VATS modules is randomly given a resistance value from the manufacturer. When these values from the ignition resistor and the VATS module are the same, then the starter and the fuel pump will operate and you will be possible to start your car. Otherwise, you won’t be able to do it. There are fifteen possible resistance values utilized by GM.
